Texas Wesleyan University is proud to announce that its Educator Preparation Program (EPP) has been approved by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) to offer the Texas Teacher Residency Preparation Route. This groundbreaking program is poised to be a game-changer in preparing highly qualified teachers to meet the growing needs of Texas classrooms. 

“We are thrilled to be one of the select few institutions in Texas to offer the Teacher Residency Preparation Route,” said Dr. Carlos Martinez, Dean of the School of Education at Texas Wesleyan University. “By offering the Texas Teacher Residency Preparation Route, we are providing aspiring teachers with a rigorous and supportive pathway to become highly effective educators.” 

The Texas Teacher Residency Preparation Route is a year-long, intensive program that provides aspiring teachers with hands-on experience in real-world classroom settings. Residents work closely with experienced mentor teachers to develop the skills and knowledge needed to be effective educators. Upon successful completion of the program, residents earn an enhanced standard certificate, signaling their higher level of preparation and commitment to the profession. 

This new route is designed to improve teacher retention and student outcomes, addressing the challenges faced by many school districts in finding and retaining qualified teachers.

Through the US PREP grant, the university is implementing innovative strategies to improve teacher education through a data-driven approach to teacher residencies.
