Two Hatton W. Sumners scholars attended the Texas Public Policy Foundation's 2022 Policy Orientation in Austin Jan. 19-21. Other scholars were able to attend the event virtually. At the annual meeting, students listened to perspectives on government policy from state leaders such as Governor Greg Abbott, Attorney General Ken Paxton and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. Texas' two senators, Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. Ted Cruz, also spoke.

The TPPF is a conservative think tank. Although based in Austin, TPPF policies have increasingly affected national politics over the last two decades.

The Hatton W. Sumners Foundation seeks to encourage the study, teaching and research into the science and art of self-government. The Sumners Scholars Program not only provides scholarship funding but also funds student participation in meetings of different groups and individuals from across the political spectrum.
