Congratulations to Aiden Howerton on receiving the Alumni Legacy Scholarship! Aiden is one of four recipients for the 2023-24 school year that will receive support from funds raised by the Alumni Association throughout the year.
Aiden, whose father, mother and cousin also attended Texas Wesleyan, is a biology major and English minor who is graduating in 2024. His goal after college is to attend dental school. Eventually, Aiden would like to open his own dental practice and start a nonprofit organization that helps the homeless and provides dental care to inmates.
When asked what receiving the Alumni Legacy Scholarship meant to him, Aiden responded that the scholarship has given him the ability to honor his relatives, such as his grandfather and parents who met at Texas Wesleyan.
“I feel like I really belong here; and, the fact that I’m able to honor my family in such a profound way means the world to me," he said. “When I was a kid, my parents would take me to Mexican Inn and then drive me around the Texas Wesleyan campus. They would tell me stories about all their shared experiences together, and I loved hearing them. Whether it was about band, classes, or just any college experience, I was always so interested.
"They would always tell me about the small tight-knit community and how the professors really helped them achieve their goals. Having professors that care for students and help them in all subjects of life is incredible. This was exactly what I was looking for in a college. I chose TXWES because of its strong, intelligent, helpful and loving family.”
Aiden’s advice to his fellow Rams is to enjoy their time at Texas Wesleyan and to surround themselves with positive people that can help them through stressful times.
