The Texas Wesleyan Alumni Association is proud to announce that Frank Johnson ‘68 is the 2024 Wesleyan Service Award honoree. Frank took the lead in raising money to start an endowed scholarship in memory of former religion professor, Dr. Alice Wonders. Frank is the founding member of the Stars of Wonders alumni group and leads a monthly zoom session of alumni dedicated to the memory and leadership of Dr. Alice Wonders.
During his time at Texas Wesleyan, Frank was on the tennis team for four years and the basketball team for two years. He was in Alpha Phi Omega and served as Vice President one year, sang with the Wesleyan Singers, was Junior Class President, and Student Body President. He had a double major in Mathematics and Religion. Frank went on to attend Emory University from June 1968 to March 1970 and Brite Divinity School at TCU from June 1970 to graduation in May 1972.
Frank realized during graduate school and after associate pastor positions in the church that the professional ministry was not his calling so he taught high school math and coached various sports at Texas Military Institute in San Antonio, and Fort Worth Country Day School in Fort Worth.
Needing to increase his income he approached Texas Wesleyan alum Weldon Ward about joining his residential real estate firm. Frank’s real estate career included facilitating the Minnesota North Star hockey team move to Dallas to become the Dallas Stars and helping the little town of Coppell grow from 3500 residents to over 25,000 residents.
After retiring from the real estate industry, he worked in various capacities at the North Hills School, and coached for a while at the Shady Grove Academy. In 2010 he was offered the opportunity to train math teachers in a program called Accelerated Math with a company called Renaissance Learning. He travelled across the nation until 2015 when he officially retired.
Frank and his wife, Cheryl Huff, have two children, six grandkids and six great-grandkids.
