Theatre Wesleyan alumni continue to lend their talents to local productions. Check out some recent performances below.

  • Carlos Brumfield '16, Jacob Rivera-Sanchez '15, current students Michelle Phillips (senior), Rayven Harris (sophomore), and adjunct professor of theater Kristin Spires all participated onstage or behind the scenes at the DFW regional premiere of the Broadway musical DISASTER! in Bedford. 
  • Mike Skipper ’78 recently produced Pure Country the Musical at Lyric Stage in Irving, and his wife, Amber Skipper ’99 performed in the production.
  • Artisan Center Theater’s production of My Fair Lady featured Evan Faris ’78 as Col. Pickering and Stan Graner ’81.
  • Disney’s The Little Mermaid at Graham Regional Theatre included Stephanie (Faris) Sanders ’01, Evan Faris ’76 and former student Emily (Skipper) McDermott.
  • Tyler Guse '17 shadowed the stage management team of the Tony-nominated and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway play SWEAT during the 2017 Playmarket trip. 
  • Jasmine West '17 received favorable reviews for her performance in Hip Pocket Theatre's production of Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe.

Perry Cockerell ’78 and wife Camille welcomed baby girl Margaux in March. Perry also recently released his second book, A Private War II, which continues the story of the unforgettable characters first introduced to readers in his 2016 novel A Private War. Purchase your copy on Amazon

Beverly Volkman Powell ’92 MBA ’99 announced her campaign for State Senate. She intends to fight for children and families, for education and for an end to the divisiveness that impedes progress in our government.

David Cox ’94, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth, was named Top Nonprofit Executive at the Fort Worth Business Press annual awards luncheon in May.

Christy Collard ’96, theater director at Nolan Catholic High School, was proud to share that theater WFAA Daybreak for raising over $7,000 for a classmate in need of assistance for medical bills and surgery.

Sharon Roberson-Jones ’96 continues to do great work in her organization. She is the founder and executive director of Excellent Teen Choice Inc. (E.T.C.), a program designed to reach out and educate youth on making better choices for their future.

Michael Crain JD ’99 opened a Midici restaurant in Fort Worth. Midici is a Neapolitan-style pizza chain that will bring more authentic Italian thin-crust pizzas to the city. The restaurant is a chain from California that was founded in 2015 and is a sibling to Menchie's Frozen Yogurt.

Red River Review editor, Michelle Hartman ’07 released her third book, Lost Journal of my Second Trip to Purgatory from Old Seventy Creek Press. It is a poetic treatment of child abuse and the effects it has on adult living. It is the first book of its kind by a recognized publisher.

She has started a Facebook page with news about the book, as well as posts to help and inform regarding mental health issues, and the various types of domestic abuse.

As well as Lost Journal, her other poetry books, Irony and Irreverence and Disenchanted and Disgruntled, from Lamar University Press are available on Amazon.August will see the release of her new chapbook, There Are No Doors, poems based on the works of Edward Hopper. Featuring woodcuts by Clarence Wolfsholf, it is published by El Grito Del Lobo Press.  

Ben Hunt ’07 welcomed Ryan Alan, the newest addition to his family, in January. 

Anael Luebanos ’09 MBA ’09 was elected to the FWISD school board. This was his first election and he won with 58 percent of the votes.

Congratulations to Justin Mikulencak ’13 for his recent graduation from Yale Divinity School.

Kristi Taylor ’13 recently released her solo album “Untangled,” which is available online.

Dr. Jill Mason-Nguyen DNAP ’15 contributed to the April 2017 issue of American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Journal.
