Students from Fort Worth ISD’s Leadership Academies started their summer break by offering a lesson to leaders in our nation’s capital.
Ten elementary and middle school students traveled to Washington, D.C., to represent their campuses and share the positive impact of afterschool programs with Texas lawmakers and their staff.
The kids’ participation in those programs is a key part of the Leadership Academies’ unique student support, which also includes an extended school day and individualized instruction.
In D.C., the students spoke about their involvement in afterschool activities to encourage federal funding. They also toured monuments and learned about American history.
The Leadership Academy Network, a partnership of Fort Worth ISD and Texas Wesleyan University, thanks Fidelity Investments—which covered the cost of airfare, hotel, meals and dress attire for the children.
