Rams Raise More Than $50,000 at 14th Annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic

A fundraising day on the links brought in more than $50,000 at the 14th annual O.D. Bounds Golf Classic, which was held at Diamond Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth Monday. The tournament is named after O.D. Bounds, Jr., ’41, a beloved Texas Wesleyan faculty member, coach, volunteer and friend.

A golf day for four with golf legend Lee Trevino was auctioned off following tournament play. Prices escalated and Trevino doubled his donation, offering two golf outings. Lee Hughes won one prize with a bid of $20,000 and Michael Clements won the other with a bid of $16,500. The money will be split between the O.D. Bounds Endowment for Golf at Texas Wesleyan and the Fort Worth Junior Golf Association.

The winners and their friends will receive a practice range session with Trevino, lunch, 18 holes of golf with Trevino at Diamond Oaks, and autographed photos from the day.

The tournament, which featured 36 teams and 149 individuals, raised approximately $15,000, bringing the O.D. Bounds Endowment to approximately $208,000. The Blue division was won on a tiebreaker by the foursome of Les Ledingham, Bryan Walsh, Chris Headen, and Dave Davis with a score of 115. Chris Gaines, Richard Noon, Laith Sando, and Jeff Cates took second. The Gold division was won by Gates Lopez, Paul Lopez, Tamie Lopez, and David Risinger at 131 while Ros Conditt, Wendell Conditt, John Conditt, and Scott Gammage finished second at 132.

The Rams are currently ranked seventh nationally in the Golf World/Nike NAIA Coaches’ Poll. They have finished seventh and ninth in two events this fall, giving them 17 consecutive top-ten finishes dating back to March of 2010. They will return to action Oct. 3 and 4, when they travel to Salem, Ore, to take part in the NAIA Preview Invitational at Creekside Golf Course, site of the 61st Annual NAIA National Championship.
