Staying in town for spring break? Not a bad idea. There are many things to see and do in Fort Worth – most of them for free.

Here’s our top 5 list:

1. Get cultured.

Fort Worth is known for its many world-famous art museums including the Kimbell, the Sid Richardson and the Amon Carter, where admission to the permanent collections are always free of charge.

2. Go downtown.

Fort Worth’s downtown area has that big-city feel but is small enough to walk around and soak in the rich history. Start at the south end and hit the Water Gardens designed by world-renowned architect, Phillip Johnson. Just a few blocks north of the Water Gardens is Sundance Square, which is always fun for people watching, eating and shopping.

3. Take a hike or ride a bike.

Fort Worth is known for their parks and hiking trails. Trinity Trails has miles and miles of trails to explore. Check out the Fort Worth bike share/bike rental program.

4. You herd it here first.

Did you know that Fort Worth has the only active cattle drive in the United States? Every day at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. you can witness a live cattle drive in the Fort Worth Stockyards. Just north of downtown, the Stockyards are a great place to do some window shopping, and feel like you’re back in the wild west.

5. Stop and smell the roses.

Fort Worth is also home to the oldest botanic garden in Texas. The Fort Worth Botanic Garden boasts several acres of more than 2,500 species of plants in over 20 different gardens. Admission to the main garden is free.
