Tell security about unreported crime from 2013

08.11.2014 | By:

If you are aware of any crimes that occurred on campus during 2013 that were not reported to Campus Security, it is important that you forward the information to the appropriate individual.

Please forward any such information by Aug. 25, 2014 to Blake Bumbard. It would be very helpful if you could provide the date and the location of the incident. In addition, please provide a brief description of the incident so it can be appropriately classified with the crime definitions published by the Federal Bureau of Investigations Uniform Crime Reporting Program.

According to federal law, specifically the Student Right To Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 (the Clery Act), Texas Wesleyan University is required to report statistics concerning the occurrence of certain criminal offenses reported to the local police agency and any official of the institution who is defined as a "Campus Security Authority." The new guidance from the Department of Education was released July 14, 2014.

The definition of "Campus Security Authority," according to federal law, is as follows:

"An official of the institution who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities, including but not limited to, student housing, student discipline, and campus judicial proceedings."

For example, a director of athletics, team coach, and faculty/staff adviser to a student group have significant responsibility for student and campus activities.

Texas Wesleyan University is required to report certain criminal offenses that occur on campus, in residence facilities, in non-campus property and on public property. The offenses we are required to report are murder/non-negligent manslaughter, negligent manslaughter, sex offenses (forcible and non-forcible), robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson, liquor law violations, drug violations and illegal weapons possession.
