Eugene Frier, M.Ed.

Director of Esports & Gaming
Morton Fitness Center: Esports Area

My name is Eugene and I have worked in higher education since the early 2000s. Throughout my career, I have been lucky enough to serve in a variety of roles. Prior to serving as the Director of Esports & Gaming and instructor of the TXWES Esports classes, I have taught several other classes, gained experience in residence life, academic advising, campus events, planning & assessment, spirit & traditions, and new student orientation. Throughout that time, I have always focused on engaging and developing students to help them achieve their goals and become career ready. In 2017, I brought that experience along with a passion for gaming into the creation of a holistic esports and gaming department and community. I earned both my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Master of Education from the University of North Texas. When not working with students or spending time with my wife, friends, or family, I am probably watching videos/TV/movies, playing World of Warcraft, playing D&D, or hanging out with friends.

How can I help?

I am responsible for administrative oversight of our esports program as well as working directly with several student groups on a day-to-day basis. I can help if you are interested in learning more about or getting involved with competitive teams, content creation efforts, or the community aspect (student orgs, events, etc.) in our department.

What I love about Texas Wesleyan

The two things I love most about Texas Wesleyan are the people and the campus size. I feel that the people on our campus (students, staff, and faculty) make work fun and make the hard days at work worth it. The people I am lucky enough to work with are all focused on making the best experience possible for our students and that is incredibly meaningful to me. I also love being on a smaller campus...it makes it easier to get to know people and feel more like a cohesive community.
